Do you believe Roger Clemens or do you care?
Posted by Todd KaufmannMLB Baseball February 23rd, 2008Almost three years ago, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro, Sammy Sosa and Curt Schilling sat in front of congress and testified on baseball’s “steroid problem.”
However, I’m stuck between calling it “testifying” or just plain “making a fool of themselves.” Mark McGwire’s “I’m not here to talk about the past,” Sammy Sosa conveniently forgetting how to speak english and Palmeiro’s “I did not take steroids…PERIOD,” then testing postive three months later.
Now, here we are again, and this time it’s Roger Clemens in the hot seat. Former trainer Brian McNamee says he not only injected Roger Clemens with HGH, but he also injected Clemens’ wife, as well as former teammate Chuck Knoblauch and friend Andy Pettitte. Pettitte has admitted to using HGH, as has Knoblauch, even Debbie Clemens has admitted to being injected, yet Roger continues to preach his innocence. When Roger was told that Pettitte admitted to using HGH, Clemens responded by saying “I was shocked when I found out.” Come on Roger, you mean to tell me that a guy that you’ve trained with and have been close friends with for years, was injected with HGH from your trainer (McNamee) and you had NO idea? Fine, maybe, but you’re also trying to get us to believe that you didn’t know your wife was injected either?
I’m curious though. Had Roger Clemens come out when this whole thing started and admitted using HGH, would Yankee fans think any less of him? I ask that question of Yankee fans because Clemens won a World Series as a New York Yankee, I’d ask the same question had he done the same with the Red Sox or Blue Jays.
Bottom line of this whole thing, the reason I don’t believe Roger Clemens. Brian McNamee says he injected Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch, Debbie Clemens and, of course, the aforementioned Roger Clemens. Pettitte admitted he did, Knoblauch admitted he did, even Debbie Clemens admitted she was injected. It’s time to step up Roger and do the right thing, let’s end this.

I think in many ways you are right, but I almost think that it has gone so far that he can’t turn back now. Either that, or he has a presidential pardon in the works.
I do know this. I was a HUGE Roger Clemens fan prior to this whole mess and now I don’t know what to think. I’d say overall I’m no longer a Roger Clemens fan.

I don’t think Clemens exactly sounds innocent. I think it might be a case where he is choosing to protect his legacy versus telling the complete truth.
