As we continue to head towards the NCAA tournament, soon our focus will move towards the conference tournaments.   This week the mid majors will be holding their tournaments and the following week the BCS conference schools will hold their tournaments. 

For me, I’ve always felt that these are a great lead in to the NCAA tournament to kind of set the mood.  You are also able to see teams NCAA tournament hopes get dashed as teams fall in their respective tournaments, thanks to the automatic bid associated with each conference tournament championship.  

Unfortunately, some people believe that this cheapens the regular season.   I can see their argument where in smaller conferences winning a conference championship guarantees you nothing because only the conference tournament championship will win you an NCAA tournament bid, but for the major conferences these tournaments create an exciting atmosphere and keeps the dancing hopes alive for several times through the end of the season.
